Why NZ rocks, reason #145042
TV commercial shows brief clip of horses getting it on. Punter whinges (won't someone think of the children?!). Advertising Standards Agency rejects the complaint, noting:

"The humour is admittedly rather juvenile and of dubious taste but the footage is not gratuitous and does not depict anything not seen daily on farms up and down the country."

"To take offence seems rather prudish and curiously anthropomorphic (it is not technically possible for animals to 'fornicate')," the bureau said.

WIN.

Here's the ad for those overseas or without tv.

(Try that in the US. The Jesus freaks would have a heyday and Fox News would run a 30 minute segment on why it's Obama's fault for ruining our gawd feern chllen)

That's a rare moment of sensible reasoning from a government bureaucracy.

Yeah, I was suitably impressed...

They even passed the responsibility for childrearing back to the parents. "If they see it, they can ask their parents."

That's bloody strange for a government agency.

My kids (nearly 4 and nearly 6) were watching the NatGeo special on cats the other day (on the wonderfully archaic linear format once known as "VHS") and the cats were doing what horny cats do, and no eyebrows were raised, no questions were asked...

But the older one did recently ask "how did baby Jack (cow-orker's kid) get in his mommy's belly?"

Remember this ad? There was a flurry of complaints over the use of "offensive language" (the word "bugger"), and the BSA basically told the complainers to get over themselves.

Were they told to bugger off?

Heh. :)

No, they were basically told to harden the fuck up. (Audio NSFW.)

I don't know about that. The farmers & rednecks would probably never even notice. It's the uptight "Protect the Children At All Costs" crowd in California that I would worry more about. ;-)

aren't those libtards of some kind? Or are they a mix of libtards and kkkonservatives?

Sure, not in the middle, but a mix of extremists . . .

Oy. Puhleez.

Meh - I see more gratuitous content on prime time TV each week.

Oh? *shrug* Don't watch much primetime, myself. Still seems like the sort of thing Fox would get their knickers in a twist about; they bleat over quite a bit less on a regular basis.

Fox makes its money by being a loud, bleating wanker. That's its business plan. It does not, by and large, represent the rest of the media industry or the country.

Aye, they've made a very good business out of it. Though with the decline of the Republican party times seem to be a tad leaner for them.

FWIW, the MSNBC lefties are just about as annoying. I understand why they went there, but I don't really think the way to combat idiotic right wing commentary is to blast it with idiotic left wing commentary. Just makes that side look as retarded as the other.
